When it is time for the cast to come off ~ we do it ourselves at home. Through careful consideration, we decided as a family that a pair of tin snips is much less scary than a cast saw. And with guidance from others - it turns out it's not that hard to get it off.
Now... my kids are pretty intuitive. Clearly, they can't KNOW that we ACTUALLY OWN a pair of tin snips. If Makenna knew we cut her hug machine off with a tool in the garage, she would want it off all the time. So, they are not tin snips. They are Magic Scissors. And they do not live at our house. They live in Chicago at the Hospital.
The story of the Magic Scissors goes something like this....
When her Dr feels like it's time for her hug machine to come off, he sends the Magic Scissors. They arrive in the mailbox in an envelope with her name on it. Mommy and Daddy don't decide when they will come and we don't know before they arrive - it's a surprise.
Apparently, not all details of the story have sunk in yet... Makenna woke up this morning and when we came downstairs, she looked at me and said "YOU said the Magic Scissors were coming today. YOU broke a promise." I defended myself by repeating the story of the Magic Scissors. All the while I was resisting the urge to run to the garage and get the damn tin snips...
I will chronicle the arrival this time because it was soooo stinkin' cute last time:) She was dancing in the driveway!
