Not taking ourselves too seriously. Finding the humor. That's how we do it here.
No children were harmed in the making of this film:)
I was transferring videos to the computer when I came across this family classic. For one of Makenna's MRI's she was given versed only. She had versed with each cast, but it was given pre-op to help relax her and then she was given full anesthesia. And although there were some good pre-op scenes thanks to the versed (trying to put plastic coins in a toy piggy bank or playing my iTouch with her feet) they are not captured on video. She never came out of recovery from a cast like she is in this video; this would have been so much easier:)
After this MRI, I remember it took her FOREVER to wake up. And the recovery nurses told us she would be... well, acting kind of drunk. They went on to warn that she will think she's perfectly capable of simple acts, but she needs to be monitored closely. What? No way. You mean she'll be kind of groggy, right? No. They did not. They meant drunk.
How could you tape this?, you might be asking. Well, if you had heard her on the way out of the hospital, in the car on the way home, and right when we got home... you would understand. But I didn't have the camera out yet ~ so you're going to have to take my word for it!
When she first woke up, I propped her up in the bed and reached over to get her juice that she had to drink before we could go. CLUNK. She tipped right over!
Ok, so they were serious about this.
As we were leaving she kept commenting on the pretty, pretty banners hanging from the ceiling and even suggested we take a different car home "because she liked it better". ... I feel like I've had that conversation before...
When we got home she refused assistance walking from the couch to the refrigerator. So I walked behind, next to, and in front of her blocking her from hitting the walls or cabinets when she toppled. I finally plopped her in the corner of the family room where I then got the camera out... this had to be documented somehow.
If it makes you feel any better, I showed her this video the other night and she laughed and laughed... she thought she was pretty funny. Me too ;)
