Tomorrow is my mom's birthday. I had the best intentions of making cupcakes and having the girls decorate them with me so we could take them over to her this evening; instead.... the girls played all day with neighborhood friends and I made a very sloppy chocolate and white cake with an icing job I wish I could have blamed on the 6 year old and 4 year old:)
My parents came over to our house on their way home from errands. Abby met my mom at the door with her handmade birthday card. Makenna was still finishing her's at the kitchen table "Wait! Don't let her come in"... so my mom waited by the front door while Makenna put the finishing touches on her card that included a picture of Makenna and my mom holding hands:)
The girls sang their own rendition of "Calling All the Monsters" and we ate cake. Abby got all the plates out, set the table, got a teapot from the playroom and filled it with water, "Would anyone care for a beverage?" she asked as she put plastic sippy cups at each place.
Before we could cut the cake, Makenna said "Everyone listen, I want anyone who doesn't want cake to leave this room." And then made all of us say "I want cake" in order to stay in the room... She then proclaimed "All bow to the birthday girl!" Like little sheep we all held our arms out and reverently bowed, "NANA, NANA....." "ALL hail the birthday girl!" Makenna proclaimed once again. Now, we could eat cake.
As they gathered there things to leave and we were saying our goodbyes on the front porch, Makenna says... "Wait! There's one more thing I have for you, Nana". She headed inside to the stairs...
I turned and looked at my mom and said "I think your getting a toy".....
"No", my mom said, "I think I'm getting toilet paper".
Makenna leaned out the door, handed my mom a roll of toilet paper and said, "Here ya go ~ it's Angel Soft :) "
Love days like today!!!
